Restorative Dentistry

Restorative treatment services are commonly performed in most dental offices. At Bayly Dental Clinic, we offer procedures such as:

• Fillings - Professionally known as “direct composite restorations,” these are the most common restorative procedures in the dental field. With a filling, a decayed and infected tooth structure is removed. It’s then replaced with a tooth-colored composite resin.
• Crowns - Also called “caps,” a crown is a restorative procedure in which a ceramic tooth-colored restoration is custom-created for you in a lab. The new “tooth” is then cemented on the prepared area in your mouth where it will be permanently placed. A crown is most frequently used when a filling can’t fix the problem because there isn’t enough support in the remaining tooth structure. They are also used when a tooth is cracked.
• Onlays - Lab-fabricated ceramic tooth-colored restorations, or onlays, are used in place of crowns in a tooth that requires more than a filling can fix. They aren’t quite as permanent as a crown but can be used in the event that a crown is not possible.
• Dental bridges - These fixed partial dentures are the preferred restorative treatment in people who are only missing one tooth or a few teeth. As long as you have two natural teeth on either side of the missing tooth, a bridge is possible. Those surrounding teeth are crowned and a false tooth is placed where the missing tooth was.
• Dental implants - If you’d like to replace your missing tooth or teeth permanently, a dental implant may be your solution. With an implant, a post is surgically placed in the jawbone. When the site heals, a tooth-colored crown is attached to the post.
